This spanking at the Lane has to go down as one of Spurs’ greatest ever triumphs over Chelsea. A 5-1 win in the 2002 League Cup semi-final stands out from a sea of Chelsea wins. Then you’ve got to go back to September 1985 for anything similar, a 4-1 home win, and then another 20 years before that for a 4-2 win courtesy of Alan Gilzean and Cliff Jones with two goals each. A Jones hat-trick helped Spurs to a 5-2 thrashing at the very end of 1961, and in the decade before that they banged four past each other on a regular basis.

But in the Premiership era, Spurs have had more managers than they’ve had wins over Chelsea (six times as many, in fact), so this Harry Kane inspired New Year’s Day mauling is truly one to savour for Tottenham fans.
